Fr. Tony’s Mid-week Message

Things I’m Certain of that I learned from the Prayer
Book (Part 3):
VI. Worship is the process by which we approach God and respond to God’s speaking to our hearts. True worship is founded on humility and contrition for one’s failings.
--“Thus says the high and lofty One who inhabits Eternity, whose
name is Holy, ‘I dwell in the high
and holy place and also with the one who has a contrite and humble
spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble and to revive the heart of
the contrite.’ Isaiah 57:15”
(One of the opening sentences for Morning Prayer, BCP p. 78).
VII. The good things we do come from
God; the bad, from us. It is
God’s intention to do good through us and make us, as much as possible,
worthy of his trust and blessings.
--“Remember, O Lord, what you have wrought in us and not what we
deserve; and as you have called us to your service, make us worthy of our
calling, through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you
and Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.” (Collect for Proper 1, BCP p.
228.)
VII. Even though our prayers are most
definitely insufficient and wrong-headed, we must continue to pray.
--“Almighty God, the fountain of all wisdom you know our
necessities before we ask and our ignorance in asking. Have compassion on our weakness,
and mercifully give us those things which for our unworthiness we dare
not, and for our blindness we cannot ask; through the worthiness of
your Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy
Spirit, One God, now and for ever.
Amen.” (Collect for Proper 11, BCP, p. 231).
More to come…
Grace and Peace.

Tony
