A Prayer for Haiti

A Prayer for Haiti

Loving Father, you taught us in your holy word that you do not willingly afflict humankind.

Look with pity upon the sorrows of your children in Haiti, afflicted by a terrible natural disaster, for whom our prayers are offered.  Remember them, Lord, in mercy.

Nourish and strengthen them.  Comfort them with a sense of your goodness.  Lift up your countenance upon them, and give them peace.

Receive the souls of those who have died.  Give comfort and peace to the dying.  Save and preserve those whose lives and health are still in danger.  Ease the pain of the injured and the grieving.  Heal and strengthen the hurt and the ill.

Give good resolve and strength to government and military officials, aid workers, care givers, neighbors, and donors that assistance will come quickly, efficiently, and in adequate amounts, that recovery efforts might begin and proceed successfully.

Help all who have lost homes, livelihoods, breadwinners, and caregivers to find new ones.

Bless us who look on at horror to trust in you and not ask why such disasters happen, but rather ask what human need we can fulfill.

Knowing our weakness and reminded by these frightening signs that we are but grass and the flower thereof, all this we ask through the merits of your son Jesus Christ, who suffered and died for us on the cross.  Amen.
